Okay, so Wednesday night I was coming home from a new bar on the other side of town.  For those who know the streets, I was heading East on 13th just past Stange.  This is a regular cop hangout since it's a wide street with a low speed limit (35 mph).

While I was waiting at the light at 13th and Stange a cop made a left in front of me and continued Eastbound (same direction as me).  Although I couldn't see him when my light went green, he was up there somewhere.

That's all setup, here's the fun part.

I'm cruising along at just over the limit and up blasts this silver 3rd gen Eclipse (I think, I always get those generation things confused) with a bigass ugly wing, a 1st gen Talon, and an early '90s Firebird.  They all pass me in the left lane and then slow WAY down so I catch them.  The Eclipse then starts pacing me.  We both have our windows down so I shout "Cop!" and point forward.  The guy thanks me and backs off.

About 1/2 a block later he assumes I'm lying to him and floors it then backs off (at which point I hear his blow-off), then floors it again and the three of them take off while making interesting hand and arm gestures.

I know you're all waiting for me to say that he got stopped about 3 blocks later, but he didn't.  I didn't see the cop (which doesn't mean he wasn't there though).  I just thought it was super funny that this guy wanted to race an xB with his turbo Eclipse on 13th at around midnight with a cop up the road that he knew about.  Doesn't sound like a receipe for keeping your license, does it?

Anyway, I'm guessing that Nick, Cass, or Gered know this guy.  The Eclipse was silver, the Talon red, and the Firebird green.  If you guys do know him, tell him he's an idiot for me and for god's sake, don't race him.  He makes bad decisions.  At least he did that night.

I have no doubt you looked better than all of them.  I hate the 3rd gens.  The 2nd gen DSM's are a cool car if they are done up right.  The firebird, eh, not very impressive.  I love the 70's firebirds, but not the 90's.  I wish the cop would have nailed them after you warned them.  Would have been like the tortise and the hare if they would have.  They think they are all fast, then get pulled over and watch the brick drive by.   :lol:

somethint like that happened to me.  There was a cop on the coralville strip to my right side and bc my windows are tinted i knew he was there but the guy that was revving his engine didn't.  So once the light went green the guy just squeeled his wheels and i barely moved.  cop flipped on his lights and pulled him over.  i just went nice and slow by him and he gave me the finger.

Sound like a bunch of idiots to me - anyone who knows anything about cars should know not to race an XB... I still get people trying to race me every day though - its funny...

Great story - would have been nice to have seen them get pulled over for street racing - automatic loss of liscence and i think its a 1300 fine....

I know the eclipse and talon - they are in the group of people that i think tried to break into my S-10... I dont know the people though.

damn kids and theyre street racing.   i have a strong opinion towars street racing as ive seen too much bad shit happen as a result  

it sure would have been nice to see them get pulled over.  i dont know how it is in IA, but the laws are actually so lienent that everyone does it.   you get a good fine, willful reckless driving, and speeding.    yea it sounds like a lot, but once you're in court, it goes down basically to carelss and speeding.  take the class and you're fine.  kinda weak if ya tell me.  stupid shit.

i am away from racing ........since 2003 never raced 1 time......except if somebody really really pissed me off with his car...but not an actually that i trigger the race  btw that was withh hprelude:) ......

with scion i get that a lot and i alway's say " dont race me i am way faster then u think " they pull the gas and me just rolling slowly at the 1st gear .......EXCEPT that 1 time guy with freeking neon had an good exaust and that was it......he was like brrrm brrmm .........so at first i didnt do anything while i notice in my first gear he was an freeking automatic .....hahah shift to 2nd i pulled like hard as i could 5-6rpms got in same lane as he was and pulled 3rd and i just waived at him ..........

i cant beleive any of you would wish someone to get pulled over..... dang even if they are being stupid.... you all know what its like to be pulled over y would you wish that on anyone.... and i know these kids... no they arent smart... but they do know what they are talking about... and that silver eclipse is actually fast... it is a gst and runs a 13.9 not bad... and that green firebird is a 97 formula with a LT1 and it also runs a 13.9 and the red one is an AWD laser thats turbo.... they are all decent fast for what they are..... and alex im sure they were all on their way to meet up with us for racing.... and the kid in the green firebird just got sent out for his tour of duty.....

okay?  you're point that theyre fast is wonderful.  i think everyones just saying theyre REALLY stupid for not only wanting to street race, but to street race a Scion.  I dont give a damn if it runs 9s, but if a guy is stupid enough to run his car after another yells "COP", then he deserves it.  Thats the way it is.    Yes, I wish he woulda been pulled over.   Take one less dangerous driver off the streets.

exactly.  the streets aren't made for racing.  You shouldn't be fucking doing that shit when there are other people around.  DRAG RACES are ment for DRAG STRIPS.  Simple as that.  If you think that its cool that people are drag racing on the streets then you shouldn't be driving.  Its not safe and people have died including two of my best friends.  Its for their and OUR benefit they get pulled over.  there are rules for a reason and if your too dumb not to follow them... well you deserved to get pulled over.

wait was the eclipse one of the 2000-2005 models? if so they didnt make a gst.....there was the base model with 4 cylinder and the GT with the 6 cylinder.  i need answers because now this is bothering me. thank you

i wish everyone racing on the street would get pulled over for being stupid - my mom had her car totaled because of some idiots street racing - could have killed her if they hit her in a different place... I hope they get smart or lose their liscences...
