Well question is the question Smiley so how do u shift ?

Some friend of mines example of if they are in the 5th gear and are about to exit the highway they just put it in N and then when they come to the stop light just put in 1st gear ? Right or Wrong? Or u can do that? i mean i do see the point u dont shift down so u dont brake with your engine then with breaks....gas officient Smiley

Clutch 1st gear all the way down but 2nd 3rd 4th just half of the clutch between the shifting ? right or wrong ? or u can do that ? so it wont harm the clutch robber. ?

Duno i shift as i have been learned, clutch all the way down, down shifting etc...so none of that above i do

even tho i did try it Smiley

,,, ok i admit that if u want really sqieel your wheels u cant have the clutch all the way down and just press on the gas ......well u can but if u race u lost Smiley........

opinionz?

when coming off that interstate off ramp you mentioned, i pop it in neutral and let it coast in and i just use regualar brakes.  going from 80 mph, and popping it thru all 5 years is just extra wear the clutch doesnt need IMHO.     thats the way i see it.

however, for daily driving, when rolling up to a stop light from like 50, ill pop it in 4th, then 3rd, 2nd, and when im COMPLETELY at a stop, THEN pop it in first.    a good rule is that if you're rolling forward at all, dont put it in first.   you can freak too much shit up that way.   the only way acceptable to do it, is to rev match (rev up to like 4K) to match what your RPMS would be if you had started out in first.  by that point though, its easier and smarter just to pop it in 2nd though.   just my .02 on that.       it just depends on how you like to do it.   thats my preference above.   i would NEVER recommend though, coming off a highway or ANYTHING about 30 mph and trying to put it in 1st to slow u down.  expect blowm tranny.

just adding to all this tranny talk, when at a light, i pop it in neutral and just press on the brake.      i know a lot of people that will just hold in the clutch the WHOLE time while they sit in there.     i think thats a waste of force by yourself, and unneeded work to hold that clutch in while you sit at a stop light.     easier to pop it in neutral.  ive heard stories of people that like to hold it in, just so if they need to move REALLY quick or an emergency happens, theyre ready to drop it and go.    Im not one of those people however.

I used to just coast when I got off interstate, but now I downshift.  It helps save the brakes and it also improves gas mileage on our cars.  With gas prices the way they are, I need all the help I can get with getting better mileage.  As far as stoplights go, I always have the car in gear while sitting at a light.  That point was drilled into my head when I took my motorcycle safety course 7 years ago and it is still with me.  It is a good idea to be in gear in case of an emergency as well as it gets you going right away when the light turns green instead of fumbling around trying to find first with people waiting behind you.

Another thing I highly recommend is the Clutch-Stop mod on ScionLife.  It vastly reduces the amount of clutch pedal movement after the clutch has been disengaged.  I have mine set so as soon as you start letting pressure off the clutch and letting it out, it starts to grab.  I have seen an improvement in both city driving and drag racing.  I put one in my car, then put one in Steve's and he seems to really like it as well.

well me when i was in germany i did hold the clutch all the way down thats how i was thought no matter what at the stop light

but now i do put it in N but i still watch the stoplight on the other end of the streat , as soon as it hits yellow i put mine in gear and drive off Smiley

Clutch all the way in for shifting, no matter what.

Downshifting as you are slowing down is fine as long as its not excessive.  (forcing it to rev way up when it gets into the lower gear)

You CAN put the car into 1st when you are rolling.  The syncro will let you know by grinding if the tranny doesnt like it.  Anywhere below 20mph for first is fine.

Joe, the "Clutch Stop" mod only costs about $5-10 and only takes 20-30 minutes.  Not too difficult and it makes a world of difference in the feel of the clutch.

i felt spykes cluch stop and i liked the way it felt never have shifted with it yet... tony you should hit me up i think i want to do that to my car.... and as far as shifting i like to double clutch when just going through town it saves syncros.... but if your comiing off the interstate coasting is fine..... i personally like down shifting... but everyone has thier own driving style.... but yeah you should always put the clutch all the way down before shifting....

Double clutching in our cars is completely unnecessary.  Double clutching was used in manual transmissions with no synchros.  Today, you only have to use this shifting method on old cars and high end race transmissions (which the tC doesn't have Tongue ).  You the exact same results when you simply hold in the clutch and blip the throttle.  The only advantage double clutching gives you in our tC is a stronger left leg, nothing more.  I did a lot of research into this when I was looking at autocrossing this spring.
