Ok, this time I've checked and double checked to be sure I've got the date right   Next sunday, Aug 20th we'll be at Mtown again with the mustang club for the next autox.  Registration begins at 9am, with first car off at 1030.  Not sure when the driver's meeting is....probably around 10, I'd encourage anyone running to be there for that.  It's $25 to run, free to watch.  Hope some of you can make it...it'll be a grand 'ol time!

Sounds like fun.  I wont be able to go as I'll be at the SCCA event in Waterloo.

Slight hijack--Check out the event at http://www.iowaregionscca.org/

Might be fun for us east siders that cant make it to Marsheltown.

I'll have to see what I am doing and maybe try to make this one.  That would be fun to roll around a go cart track.

I've never been a fan of the waterloo event.

DMVRSCCA.org is the direct link to the Des Moines Vally Region SCCA chapter. Here's the Racing schedual.

http://www.dmvrscca.org/soloschd.htm

Marshalltown is a much better track as you've actually got some points of reference vs having to eye cones. I doubt very highly that the DMVR will be allowed back into the Marshalltown track because of too many accidents. The SCCA board was kinda off on the idea of having the events there anyway because of higher then normal track speeds causing the high risk of injurys and accidents.

Have fun at Waterloo because ANY autocross is fun. Cheesy Id go but I'm short on the funds. Sad

Is anyone going to this.  It would be fun to do, but I don't want to be the only Scion there.

After talking to a co-worker that used to autocross, I am planning on running my car this weekend at Marshalltown.  He gave me some helpful tips and got me wanting to test myself as well as the car.  Hopefully, it isn't just me out there representing Scions.  Its a Sunday so come and see what your car can do.

Yea, c'mon guys Tongue  I'm going, Matt will probably drive my car as well, and we have friends here with a 350Z, a 240SX Turbo....and 2 other guys (don't know them, or remember what they're driving).  It will be fun!  And the weather looks perfect.

If I wasn’t in Waterloo I would have made it out, but I had a great time!  They should have our times up tomorrow.

Booo to those that didnt go.

If you've ever thought about going to an event like these, I would strongly suggest doing so.  SO much fun!!!  I hope to have some vids up by the end of the week. (or when my parts get here)

I have always been a fan of drag racing because of the adreneline rush you get while screaming down the track.  Now imagine having to make a sweeping left hand turn, followed by a tight 180 degree left turn, followed by a sweeping right, etc.  That is what it was like at the track.  I think I ended up about mid-pack out of the 50+ people that raced.  I could have shaved a few seconds more off my times if I had tires on my car that weren't bald.  After screaming around those tight corners all day as fast as I could go, it was wierd getting back to normal city driving.  I learned two main things while racing yesterday.  One is that my car can take corners a lot tighter and faster than I thought it could.  And two, the fuel pump is on the passenger side of the fuel tank.  I learned that last little tidbit while having low gas and going through the long right handed sweeping curve.  On the first run, just as I was exiting the curve, the car would run out of gas for a second, then pick back up.  A quick trip to the local gas station helped that problem.  I definately want to get back to do some more road racing.  The different curves, elevation changes, the quick tight track, and the very nice people made yesterday an extremely fun day for me and my car.

I wouldn't doubt that a road course is a lot different.  It was definately good for my first time to be on a go-cart track so I could figure out how far I can push my car in the corners.  Maybe after another Marshalltown track day, I will be ready to go to a real road course and see how the tC does.
