So I got pulled over today for the first time in like... 4 years.

I was just about the nevada/ames off ramps going north. The state trooper is going south, sees me, cuts across the median and follows me down the ramp and all the way to the kum and go. He then proceeds to give me a ticket for my window tint (68.50), a warning for speeding, and a warning for not having my front license plate on the car.

I suppose I got lucky that he only gave me one ticket. So the lesson to be learned, is that window tint is not liked by the state troopers, and they are really REALLY mean about it when they pull you over.

only in story and boone county - ive had 5 tint tickets in my life every one was a trooper - never a cop - and all were on highway 30 or Interstate 35 near ames.... Bull----

It sucks, because I only travel between ames and des moines IF I even travel. 99% of my time is spent in Ames. I am thinking that if I do travel down there I will simply roll down the windows and just drive like that.

The window tint isn't why he pulled you over BUT....since he had you and couldn't give you a icket for speeding, he might as well give you one for the tint.

Unless a cop is in a bad mood or has nothing else better to do, you wont get pulled over for window tint (unless you own a white vehicle) but once you get pulled over, they have an excuse.

My s10 was white - thats what got me all my tint tickets. I would get pulled over for that alone, unless it was raining. I usually roll down windows when i see a cop.

I saw just keep your eyes peeled and a finger on the window button...

I am curious about your comment. You say that he pulled me over but couldn't give me a ticket. I knew I was speeding and I admit to you that I was going 80 in a 70. Why couldnt he give me the speeding ticket is what I dont get? I am very thankful that it was just a tint ticket, and I will just have to watch my ass from now on.

I was curious about that as well - Also I believe Hwy 30 is still a 65MPH zone.  I think only 80, 35 and maybe 20 are moved to 70. I may be wrong though.

He saw me on 35 as I was about to pull onto 30.

Chances are REALLY good if he was going the oposite direction on an interstate, he couldn't get an accurate reading AND if at ANY point he lost line of sight on your car after getting your speed on radar, legally, he can't give you a ticket for speeding.

If he knew you were speeding, turned around and lost sight of you for any given amount of time, he wanted to nail you for something and window tint is a great excuse that you can't talk your way out of.

i dont know about all that - i do know that i have had 3 speeding tickets in my life and they all involved a cop pulling through the median on an interstate or highway - 2 on HWY 65 and on on 35S... One of my tint only tickets had a cop pull a U turn on me as well for tint only...

If you try and fight that and go to court - its your word against the cop - who do you think the Judge will side with...

theres a lot of little loopholes out there but good luck pulling them off.

i got the same ticket...tint...no front plate and well speeding(58 in a 55).  ya kinda crap on the speeding but oh well.  the cop told me he noticed i had no front plate and well didnt like that but would have let it go but then saw my tint so pulled me over.  so yes they will pull you over for tint but its normally only in polk county and the troopers dont like it either.  thats why i love my prescription!
