I have decided to join the Army Reserves.  It is something that I have pondered doing for 5 years now and finally figure that if I'm going to do it; now is the time.  I know most of your first reactions will be: "Why, there's a war going on" and that's understandable, but I see this as a great opportunity.  Not only is the signing bonus great (you know its all about the money) but also I'll be getting paid for hands on training that directly relates to my degree.  Plus that training converts to class room hours, putting me that much closer to that degree.

On to the nuts and bolts.  I leave this Sunday for Des Moines to have my physical and official sign in on Monday.  Assuming that it all goes well, I will be back in Des Moines on Monday, February 5th for an overnighter and prep, then off to Ft Jackson, SC on the 6th.  I'll have my basic training there for 9 weeks and after that I'll be in Ft Gordon, GA for Signal Corp training that'll last 17 weeks and 3 days.

Obviously, the biggest negative is the time that I'll be gone and the time of year that I'll miss. (I haven't gone skiing this year; I'll miss the Chicago Auto Show, most of the baseball season ? no Cubs, the All Scion Show  Angry )  But the good news is that I'll be back for football season.  And I'll be ready to get crazy!!  I also plan to hit up all the shows and track time that I can!!

I hope that you all have a great summer.  Make sure you get to those shows and throw down for ScinergyIA.

Wow, that's right there on the list of "stuff I didn't expect today".

Good for you buddy!  I know that I am behind you 100%.  If you need anything during your training or whenever, as ALWAYS, just hit me up.

Good luck!

Thanks for the support guys!

Roy, I'm not leaving Toyota nor am I giving up the xB.  Toyota's a great comp. to work for and their behind me on this too.  Not only will I have my same job waiting for me but their paying me while I'm gone.

As far as the xB goes, I hope Isaac will bring it to the show.  Oh. and expect to see a lot of mods to it when I get back!!

Welcome aboard! I'm also in the U.S. Army Reserve. It's great!

I made the same kind of decision 3 years ago to join after talking about it for a couple years.

Congrats on the life changing experience.

I went to Fort Benning, GA for basic and Redstone Arsenal, AL for AIT.

I'm an Ammunition Specialist. At my new unit here in DSM I don't do much. When we get deployed I will be doing the ammo logistics for a part of a theatre of combat.

Do you know which unit you're in yet? I think the closest one to you is in south Cedar Rapids.

You should have told me you were joining. I'd have split the bonus money with you.
