I have decided to join the Army Reserves. It is something that I have pondered doing for 5 years now and finally figure that if I'm going to do it; now is the time. I know most of your first reactions will be: "Why, there's a war going on" and that's understandable, but I see this as a great opportunity. Not only is the signing bonus great (you know its all about the money) but also I'll be getting paid for hands on training that directly relates to my degree. Plus that training converts to class room hours, putting me that much closer to that degree.
On to the nuts and bolts. I leave this Sunday for Des Moines to have my physical and official sign in on Monday. Assuming that it all goes well, I will be back in Des Moines on Monday, February 5th for an overnighter and prep, then off to Ft Jackson, SC on the 6th. I'll have my basic training there for 9 weeks and after that I'll be in Ft Gordon, GA for Signal Corp training that'll last 17 weeks and 3 days.
Obviously, the biggest negative is the time that I'll be gone and the time of year that I'll miss. (I haven't gone skiing this year; I'll miss the Chicago Auto Show, most of the baseball season ? no Cubs,
the All Scion Show
) But the good news is that I'll be back for football season. And I'll be ready to get crazy!! I also plan to hit up all the shows and track time that I can!!
I hope that you all have a great summer. Make sure you get to those shows and throw down for ScinergyIA.
