I just recently bought a 2005 Scion XB.  I am very interested in getting a sponsorship so that I can attend many shows.  The problem I have is that I need to write a proposal for all of the sponsorships I am applying for.  This includes modifictaions that have already been done, future plans, awards, and car shows that I plan to attend.  I need some help on choosing future shows that I plan to attend.  I have never done any car shows before so I am clueless.  Please let me know of all Scion car shows that take place here in the Midwest.  I plan to attend as many as possible.

Thank You,
Ira

Ira, your best source of information is probably going to be Alex,(grizzly_choppers)  there are shows in Chicago and in Kansas City, as well as a few in Minneapolis  . other than that you can plan on a lot of driving.

Sponsorships take a lot of work.  Generally, you need a fairly modded car and must have won awards at shows.  There are a few (and I mean VERY few) cars that get sponsored like you are talking about.  I have been part of the Scion community for over 2 years, have attended 25+ shows, have a shelf full of trophies, and am just now starting to get sponsorships.

The key to getting sponsorships is understanding why they happen.  Companies want their name out there.  If they sponsor you, they don't expect people to come running to buy parts because people saw them at a show, companies sponsor cars to get their names out there.  They want people to hear the company name and associate it with a good product.  If you have a stock car with only a few mods, people aren't going to notice your car more often than not.  If you consistantly win at shows and people know your car and the time, money, etc. you have put into it, you will be a much better investment for a company.

Sponsorships are a loss for companies 95% of the time.  As I said, the reason they do it is to get their name out there so people recognize it when they hear it.  If you want to get sponsored by a company, you need to do your homework and learn about the company.  Already having some of their products is definitely a plus as well as showing passion for both the car culture and the company.

As you can tell, I have done a lot of research on sponsorships.  My current formal proposal is 5 pages long and is constantly growing.  It takes a lot of hard work, but once you have done your time and put in the work, it eventually pays off.
