Hi,

I just bought an Injen Cold Air Intake for my 08' Scion tC spec and I was just wondering if I had to pull off the front bumper to install it. I know the directions say to, but I was just wondering if it was a thing that absolutely had to be pulled off.

Thanks
Tyler

It can be installed without pulling the bumper.  I got mine in no problem with the bumper on.  All you need to do is pull the wheel and inner fender well cover.

^^^what he said and not even the whole fender liner...just the front few fasteners. The biggest headache is getting the pipe through to the engine bay and keeping the gasket on the inner fender.

Ya my bad only the front few fasteners.  I would recommend two people for the job though.  One in the fender well and one person above.  That helped me that way could help guide the pipe through.

You probably don't NEED to pull the bumper off, but it will give you more room to work.  Besides, pulling the bumper isn't difficult at all.  I can pull a front bumper in 7-10 minutes.  Very easy to pull it.  If you need any help, let me know.

To be honest the bumper really wasnt in my way when I installed mine so not sure why they say to pull it.  Just more crap to worry about and making sure everything is lined up when you put the bumper back on.  I spent 2 years in auto classes and one of them was auto collision and we spent lots of time making sure bumpers and panels were aligned its not fun.

The nice thing about the tC's bumper though is it clips in below the headlights and at the top of the wheel well.  If the bumper isn't lined up, it won't snap into place, simple as that.  I have taken bumpers off and put them back on tC's about a dozen times and every time, it lines right back up perfectly thanks to the clips.

Good idea Alex, I didn't even think of it! I most likely will be putting it on later tomorrow with my dad. Hopefully I won't end up taking the front bumper off, but it doesn't sound like it would be too much of a pain if I did. I'll let you guys know how it went.

Thanks for all the input!

Ok, so my dad and I got the cold air intake on this morning. We did end up taking the front bumper off which wasn't so hard. But, my problem is that my check engine light is on. It isn't running like crap, so I don't think its the mass air flow sensor. Is it normal for it to be on?

Well mine didnt come on but sometimes people have issues with it coming on.  Disconnect your battery for a while and then reconnect and see if that does the trick.

False alarm! My dad disconnected the reconnected the battery right after I posted that comment. So it's all good. The tC sounds freakin awesome with the new Injen CAI! The exhaust has a nice throaty sound to it now, not so ricey.

I thought the specs had the same headlights as the 05-07 tC's.  What's different about them besides the chrome trim being removed from the housings?
