Howdy Y'all!

NicktC and I were talking in another thread about the possible usefullness of a general technical session for the club at our next meeting or some other time.

The idea would be to explain how exactly a few different systems in the vehicle work.  This would be general explanation that would not be specific to any particular model, but questions would, of course, be welcome and answered to the best of our ability.  I'll happily volunteer my services and limited knowledge for this project if there's interest and I'm sure that I could bribe 'pounder and maybe Darin (who you met at Hooters) to join in.

Some topics we were thinking about were:
-Fuel metering and MPG
-Lock cylinder operation (more helpful than you think!)
-Tires and wheels (including changing a flat maybe)
-Brakes and ABS

I'm thinking we could do a few at a time so that we aren't all bored to death.  Maybe 20-30 minutes per go?

Basically I'm just sounding out the idea right now.  If you guys think it would be helpful, say so.  If you think the idea is crap, say so (but you'll make me cry  ).  If you have some other topics you would like gone into, say so.  Seeing a pattern here???

Post up here and let me know what you think and I'll start moving or not!

Yeah, Im willing to help out however I can, I have basic to decent knowledge on most car related subjects, but as Griz said, if the idea is bad, just say so.
But yeah, if anybody has suggestions as far as topics, or just questions about anything, just speak up and we can go from there on it.

In Fact, you can go to www.howstuffworks.com (im sure some of you have heard of the site) and just type in what you are looking for (or go to the 'auto stuff' catagory) and they explain how everything works for the most part, and alot of them even have animations.

Toodles,

I think it's a great idea. especially since I don't even know how to change my oil. then again I would probably just be holding the rest of the group up with stupid questions.

Gotta second what Roy said real quick!  Justin, your questions, and anyone else's would be most welcome.

I know that we have many technically minded people in the club, but there's also a lot of us who know the what and why of a system, but are missing the "how" which could help explain things!  That's what I'm aiming at here.

Okay, seems to be an overall positive response so far.  Also, thanks for the link Nick!

Let's hear some more ideas for topics!  Maybe we could also get Emp. Joe and Ryan to do a tag team about what lighting options are available and what's legal in Iowa??  I would dig on that!

Topics I came up with while here at work bored...
Legality Issues (Lighting, etc) in Iowa
Pros and Cons of certain Mods (Superchargers vs turbos, etc)
Basic Mechanics (Changing tires, Tire rotation, oil, plugs, lightbulbs, etc)
Mechanical Theory (How VVTI works for instance)

Idk, just throwing some stuff out there

Maybe after we do the first one of these we can type up a summary and put in in a section like that.  You can make it now or later Joe.  No matter.

Good suggestions Nick!  We could do all that.  I have some really good stuff about VVTi and VVTLi (the Matrix XRS has that and I'm pretty sure you'll see it on Scion in the future) so we could do that too!  I'm thinking we should do the general maintenance stuff and legal stuff first and then move into the other things.  I'll ask Danny if we could use the shop for this.

I'll get back on this later.

Yeah, VVTL-I would be awesome in a tC.  The LIFT part would help it out alot.

Yeah, the Matrix XRS/Vibe GT shares the Celica GT-S 1.8 ltr (forgot the engine code) if I recall...great motor right there...I would LOOOOVE to have a tC with that in it.
Less torque, but 8200(ish?) redline would rock!

But yeah, I see no reason why we couldnt drive to Ames for the next get together/tech session.  I think Roy and I are the only ones that arent too close, Idk about Roy, but I dont mind the drive.

Roy already said that he was missing December, but he's usually not bothered by a drive.  I guess we'll plan for Ames then!

Oh yeah, the motor code is 2ZZGE.
